Housing Assignments Policies
Single Occupancy
A limited number of designated single rooms are available for an additional charge (see Tuition and Fees). Located primarily in Dodds Hall, these rooms are typically reserved for upper-division students. Visit the Housing Selection page on how rooms are selected.
Single rooms may also be assigned through approved medical or mental health accommodations. See our Medical and Mental Health Accommodations page for details.
Double Occupancy
Double-occupancy rooms are designed for two students. When a roommate cancels or changes their housing plans, it may leave a student without a roommate at no fault of their own.
Students who are in double rooms without roommates are encouraged to find a compatible roommate and must make the available space accessible to another assigned resident upon request. Vacancies may be filled throughout the semester as students need to move.
Suite Living
Students in suites with common areas are expected live peacefully in the shared living space. When a suitemate cancels their housing plans, the remaining suitemates should work to find a compatible replacement. If a replacement is not selected, that space may be filled throughout the semester as students need to move.
Room Consolidation
The Office of Residential Life (ORL) reserves the right to reassign students to meet University needs and maximize available housing. ORL will work to consolidate students without roommates by assigning incoming or returning students to vacancies or grouping students in similar situations. Consolidation may occur during breaks or at other appropriate times.
Room Changes
Students wishing to change rooms or residence halls should contact ORL or the Area Director for their desired location. An official room change meeting must be completed before moving. Room changes may be limited at the beginning and end of each semester to allow ORL to maintain accurate occupancy records and prepare housing assignments.
Roommates
Students experiencing roommate conflicts are encouraged to use staff mediation and a roommate contract to resolve disagreements. If these efforts are unsuccessful, both residents will be offered the opportunity to move in with another student without a roommate.
If neither roommate agrees to move and the situation shows no significant improvement or potential for improvement, ORL may require both roommates to relocate to other campus housing.
