University Housing Requirements Policies

Housing Requirements and Cancellation

Students are required to live in University-approved housing (residence halls, äçÐÄvlogÃâ·ÑBÕ¾ Apartments, or Greek chapter houses) for six semesters. Housing contracts are completed online through MyHousing and cover the full academic year (Fall and Spring). Once a housing agreement is signed and a room is selected, students will not be released from these obligations.

Students must be at least 17 years old on move-in day to live in äçÐÄvlogÃâ·ÑBÕ¾ residence halls. Room and board rates are published in the Tuition and Fees schedule.

Housing Cancellation
  • Students not returning to University housing must submit an online cancellation request
    • Fall semester - request before March 1.
    • Spring semester - request before December 1.
  • Students returning for the Fall who have not pre-enrolled for classes by July 1 will forfeit their room reservations.
  • Midyear cancellations are permitted for off-campus study/study abroad, or when a student leaves the University due to graduation, transfer, or leave of absence.
  • Students may not cancel their housing contracts midyear to move off campus or into a fraternity or sorority house.

Fall Incoming students (New Students): go to the Incoming Student Page for more information on housing applications, assignments, and deadlines.

Fall Returning students: go to the Current Students Page for more information on Housing Applications, Assignments, and Deadlines.

Appeals to Housing Charges

Students may appeal housing charges for the following reasons:

  • The charge was assessed in error.
  • Extreme circumstances warrant an exemption.
  • The assessment did not follow institutional procedures.
  • New information may affect the assessment.

Appeals must:

  • Be submitted in writing within 60 days of the charge assessment.
  • Identify the grounds for the appeal.
  • Explain the circumstances and provide relevant information for review.

The Housing Appeals Committee includes representatives from the Business Office, Office of Residential Life Advisory Committee, ORL professional staff, and the Assistant and Associate Deans of Students. The Assistant Director of Residential Life and Director of Student Involvement co-convene the committee as non-voting members.

Students will be notified of the decision within two weeks of the committee meeting or by the end of the month in which the meeting occurs, whichever comes first. Students should defer payment of disputed charges until a final decision is made.

Greek Chapter Houses

Upper-division students affiliated with a social fraternity or sorority who have completed two semesters of residence hall living are required to live in their chapter house and participate in the chapter house dining plan, where available.

Residential Greek chapters are expected to maintain a living environment that supports their founding values, traditions, and the development of members through shared experiences. Chapters are also responsible for self-governance and ongoing recruitment to maintain membership levels appropriate for their assigned housing capacity.

If a chapter reaches full capacity and has additional members who require University housing, ORL will assist in providing residence hall assignments as space allows.

äçÐÄvlogÃâ·ÑBÕ¾ is an independent, residential, liberal arts university.
